Zimbabwe: Vanessa Does Country Proud

Harare — Zimbabwean beauty queen Vanessa Sibanda did the nation proud when she finished in the top 12 of the Miss Beach-Beauty contest held in South Africa in the build up to the Miss World finale.
In a live broadcast of the Miss World pageant on SABC 3, at the weekend, Vanessa kept Zimbabwe's hopes high in the contest when her name was called among the top 12 contestants of the Miss Beach-Beauty. According to rules of the Miss World pageant there are six-contests including the Miss Beach-Beauty, whereby the winner automatically qualifies for the Miss Word finals.
However, Vanessa could have easily secured her place in the Miss World finals had she won the Miss Beach-Beauty title.
Tension was high at the Gallagher Convention in Johannesburg, the venue of the 59th Miss World pageant but the delectable Vanessa stood with her head above the shoulders maintaining her cool confidence. As Angela Chow, the host of the show announced the top 17 finalists it became clearer that it was the end of the road for Zimbabwe in what local critics described as a "casino" pageant.
And from the top 17, only seven went into the finals of the contest in which the 23-year-old administrative clerk Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar was crowned. "I have no words," she was quoted as saying when asked to describe how she felt.
However Vanessa is expected back in Harare today.
