At a colourfull event known as the "Excellent Awards 2008", hosted by the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) the school's beauty queen, 20 year old, Joan Ingabire, was crowned.
The occasion had ladies of course being ladies dressed to kill! Trendy fashion and make-up were the key attributes to watch out for here; probably inspired by the glittery beauty contestants.
The closing ceremony went as planned. Six beauty queens contested for the Miss SFB. The occasion was graced by several high ranking dignitaries; the SFB's Vice Rector Administration and Finance, Public Relations Officer, lecturers and students from different Rwanda universities.
Also in attendance were Miss Kigali, Miss National University of Rwanda, Miss Kigali Institute of Science Technology (KIST), the out-going Miss SFB, Miss ISAE, Miss Mudende, Prince SFB.
A panel of six judges chaired by the guest judge, former Miss Black Germany Ms Jolie Murenzi , Rwanda's professional Fashion Designer Mr Dad De Maximo, the former Prince of Mudende and Public Relations Media manager of Impact Rwanda Mr Pacific Nzamwita, scrutinized all the criteria for the candidates among whom emerged winners.
Ingabire the first year faculty of management student defeated five other contestants to emerge the winner of the university's beauty pageant.
The dazzling beauty walked away with Frw100, 000, a one night stay at Kigali's Serena Hotel, courtesy of Serena Hotel Kigali, a brand new Nokia phone, with a one month package of cosmetics by Sulfo Rwanda. Each contestant was asked two questions.
Ingabire was first asked by the panel how she would use her beauty to improve the image of the school, as well as the Rwandan society. Ingabire answered both the questions to their satisfaction.
The head of the jury, Nzamwita, said the search for Miss SFB 2008 was not an easy task, as all the contestants were brilliant and smart.
The winner Ingabire scored a whooping 79.2 percent with Emma Kayonde Mukabera and Bonna Hategekimana coming second and third respectively.
The first and second runners were also awarded Nokia mobile telephones, and a one month package of cosmetics, courtesy of Sulfo Rwanda
After crowning the wining contestants, the event's organizing committee also awarded the: Best Student, Best Lecturer, Best Socialable, Best SFBAS Leader, and another award was given to the Best Club.
However, special awards were also given to individuals who strived for the development of the SFB Culture and Entertainment Community.
Patrick Muhire, who was the main organizer of the event, said the preparations were not so hectic because the school's organizing committee was cooperative and each contestant was overwhelmed to win the beauty pageants.
The pageant was sponsored by; MTN, the University Authority, SMS media, Serena Kigali Hotel, B-Club, Sulfo Rwanda, Contact FM, Heaven Restaurant, among others.
Local and international music entertained the crowd through the afternoon to the start of the event, though it was delayed for some time.
The enthusiastic revelers were thrilled by local artists, who included Frank Joe, who was the main performer, MC TINO, Mugarura, and Patrick with his band.
As Frank Joe swung from the rafters and danced high above the stage, his famous hit "Rosannei," many deserted their seats to hit the dance floor.
The whole event was really amazing, the maestro singers sent the crowds screaming and cheering for more.
Dissatisfaction during the event: Despite a huge budget of RWF2.440.000, it was apparent that the organizing committee failed to hire standard music systems, that would rise to the occasion.
There were continuous disruptions caused by the low quality system in use, but, also a disruptive MC who nagged the blissful audience, as he kept on interrupting the music unnecessarily.
It all started when he officially started the event. He started by saying: "Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you all to this extraordinary event of electing Miss SFB 2008."
That was pretty good and we all bestowed our credits to this, handsome and smartly dressed guy. However, matters worsened when he led us into a seemingly dubious religious ceremony, "In order to have a successful event, let's all humble ourselves before God and Pray.
Ok guys Amen!" As we were all waiting for him or lead us into prayer, or at least delegate someone to pray. He had actually prayed. One student from the crowed screamed his lungs out "Disaster!" It was really hard for one to handle it thus the entire crowed blustered into laughter.
Finally, at about 9:56 pm, the judges announced the winner, which sent revelers into an frenzy of applause. The winners and the VIP's headed to Heaven Resturant for a dinner
