2 women with Western Mass. ties to vie for Miss America title

For two Western Massachusetts women, their dreams may come true after being crowned Miss Massachusetts and Miss Connecticut this summer.
Hoping to succeed the current Miss America, Kirsten Haglund, of Michigan, will be Alicia Zitka, of West Springfield, who was named Miss Massachusetts on June 28 when she was crowned at Bristol Community College from among 19 finalists.
Also vying for the coveted title in what may just be a first in Miss America history, is Ashley Glenn, a native of Easthampton and a former Massachusetts Junior Miss, who was named Miss Connecticut from among 20 contestants in late June.
