SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - There are new developments in a beauty-contest sabotage investigation in Puerto Rico.
The island's police chief says a security guard who was "playing around" backstage may have contaminated the clothing and makeup brush of Miss Puerto Rico Universe with pepper spray.
He says police are looking into whether it was an accident, or deliberate. And, he says police are reviewing a video showing the same security guard kissing a rival beauty contestant.
The winner of the contest, Ingrid Marie Rivera, has said that something caused her face to swell and break out in hives in between her appearances on stage. The pageant director says she thinks there was a conspiracy to sabotage Rivera.
Last week, Rivera's evening gown and makeup brush tested negative for pepper spray. Pageant officials then submitted new evidence, including a swimsuit. Police say they're looking into whether the suit may have been doused with pepper spray after the accusations were made public.
