As a former Mrs. Globe, the founder of Women In Need, a radio and tv personality and author, I am often asked, “Tracy, how do you do it? How did you reach success?”
Though success and the steps to achieve it are many, there is one element that has served as my primary “power pill”. That being, my attitude.
When it comes to winning a pageant, or simply winning in life, one of the primary things it takes to succeed is a good attitude. Let me tell you exactly what this means. It means having a good attitude about the pageant you are in; the people you are with; and most important, a good attitude about yourself (ie, self-esteem).
I have been in the “emotional motivation make-over” industry for over ten years. Over the past ten years I have worked with hundreds of potential winners. These women, like many, appeared on the surface to have everything it would take to “make it”. All, except one thing: A good attitude.
If you have ever found yourself struggling with being a nego-holic, a gossiper, a hard-on-yourselfer, or self-sabotager, then stay tuned for the next issues of Supermodels. I will be addressing in detail on the 11 attitude killers that might be keeping you from your success and dreams.
Let’s start our attitude make-over by outlining the 11 attitude killers and address the first one. In no particular order, semi-finalist are….
1) Not Being Prepared 2) Being Insecure 3) Negativity 4) Lack of Focus 5) Gossip 6) Fear of Success 7) Fear of Failure 8) Being Needy 9) Competing Against the Wrong People 10) Kindness vs. Confidence 11) Fear of the Judges
ATTITUDE KILLER #1: NOT BEING PREPARED THE CURE: PREPARING FOR SUCCESS
I mention in my “Preparing for Success” Booklet, one of my training manuals, that many potentially great winners lose because they are not prepared. When the door of opportunity opened for them, they were not ready or prepared to walk through it. By making this one mistake at this one moment in time, their personal destinies were changed forever.
Being prepared is the foundation on which success is built. To compromise being prepared is to compromise your dream, possibly even your destiny.
Many contestants believe that all it takes to win a pageant in this day and age is a sparkly dress, big hair, memorize some answers and shabam! You should win. This could not be farther from the truth.
Being prepared takes much more than that. Being prepared means designing a realistic plan with goals and objectives that will get you to where you want to be by the time you want to be there. I call this a Personal Vision Plan.
A Personal Vision Plan is to include the following: • A time frame chart: This is the “how”, “what” and “when” you will make your daily strives to success. This chart outlines an 11-week, to one year plan with your goals. • A three-part personal preparation goal chart: We are three part beings: We are physical, emotional and spiritual. To win a pageant you must be developed and prepared in each of these areas. Over looking any one of these will change your personally destinies. Do you want proof? Stop for a moment and think about the overall presence of the “Big Winners” in the pageant industry. Each one is fully developed physically, emotionally and spiritually and each one projects their strengths in these areas during their competition. • A financial plan: Last I heard, nothing in life is free. So set your financial goals so that you can present yourself in the fashion that esteems you.
Most people underestimate the power of a Personal Vision Plan for their life. However, by preparing for your future it makes sure there is a slot waiting for you when you arrive.
The Winner’s Attitude: A Winner is someone who makes the extra effort. You are a Winner, so make the extra effort.
